Patient Encounters and Episodes of Care Overview
Section titled “Patient Encounters and Episodes of Care Overview”Healthie provides two complementary features for tracking and coordinating patient care: Patient Encounters and Episodes of Care. These tools work together to create a comprehensive view of patient interactions, from individual appointments to broader care coordination periods.
Patient Encounters represent individual interactions between patients and healthcare providers where medical services are rendered. These encounters are automatically generated when appointments are marked as “Occurred” and serve as a central hub connecting appointments, clinical documentation, billing forms, and invoices. Patient Encounters streamline both clinical workflows and billing processes by ensuring all aspects of a patient visit are linked together in a unified structure.
Episodes of Care provide a framework for coordinating healthcare services across multiple patient encounters. They organize related encounters into a structured patient journey around specific diagnoses or treatment plans, enabling comprehensive care coordination and outcome tracking over extended periods. Unlike Patient Encounters, Episodes of Care must be manually created through the API and are primarily designed for custom integrations and backend care coordination systems, as they currently have no user interface in Healthie’s web application.
For additional context and use cases, see the Healthie Help Center article on Encounters and Episodes of Care.
